About this tool

Made for the task at hand.

Generate an extractable RSA key pair for RSASSA-PKCS1-v1_5 signatures with SHA-256. Native Web Crypto supports 2048-, 3072-, and 4096-bit keys; the private key is exported as PKCS8 PEM and the public key as SubjectPublicKeyInfo (SPKI) PEM.

How to use

  1. Choose a 2048-, 3072-, or 4096-bit RSA modulus.
  2. Generate the key pair and wait for the browser to finish.
  3. Download the combined PEM output, then separate and protect the unencrypted private key appropriately.
Your work stays yours.
Tool inputs are processed locally in your browser and are never sent to KitVerse servers. Clear the workspace when using a shared device.
Common questions
Is the private key encrypted?

No. PKCS8 is a container format and this output is unencrypted PEM. Anyone who obtains it can use the private key, so protect or encrypt it with suitable key-management tooling.

Can these keys encrypt files?

These keys are generated with sign and verify usages for RSASSA-PKCS1-v1_5. Use an RSA-OAEP key for compatible RSA encryption, or preferably a hybrid encryption design for files.
